Falconry Assessor

Birds of prey are such beautiful creatures, who wouldn’t want to work with them?

Together with the Hawk Board and with help from professional falconers throughout the UK, we were the first to develop a training course for those new to falconry as well as for experienced falconers.

To help deliver the courses, we are always looking for new falconry assessors to judge whether learners are competent. To become an assessor, you must be registered to at least one falconry centre. Once approved, you’ll be able to assess learners taking falconry courses in as many centres as you like.

If you are interested you’ll find everything you need to know here.

Quality Assured

We take pride in the quality of our courses and so we like to make sure they’re delivered by the best possible people for the job.  With this in mind, there are a few things that you need to have in order to apply. You must:

  • Have experience of keeping a range of birds of prey, including training at least one bird from first principles

  • Already hold our Beginning Falconry Award

  • Have one or more of the following:

    • Be a full member of a recognised falconry club

    • Hold a current zoo licence for a collection which includes birds of prey

    • Have at least a Level 2 award in animal care or animal management

    • Be a qualified veterinary nurse or veterinary surgeon

    • Hold a recognised teaching or training qualification at Level 3

    • The ability to present a portfolio of evidence of advanced practice in bird of prey care, management and falconry with witness statements and testimonials

Once applied, an external verifier will go through your application, and should you tick all the boxes, we will invite you into the second stage of approvals.

This second stage is attending our ‘Falconry Assessor Training Day’ event. At this event, you’ll be taught all about our modules, as well as getting a few hints and tips on how to assess your learners to the high standards Lantra Awards works to. You will also learn about our procedures and how we certify learners. Once you’ve completed the day, we will grant you full assessor status.
