New Forestry and Arboriculture Provision from Lantra Awards

Lantra Awards is developing a suite of forestry and arboriculture training and qualifications, many of which will be available from September 2012.  (See Note to Editors for full course list).  These qualifications are identical to those offered by other Awarding Organisations.  

The new training and qualifications map directly to the revised NOS bringing them fully up-to-date.  They also respond to industry needs by becoming streamlined and uncomplicated.  Previously content was heavily weighted towards forestry – the new offerings acknowledge this and will be equally suitable for arboriculture and forestry alike – in line with the updated NOS. 

For the first time Lantra Awards is able to offer recognised qualifications with regulated assessment in the areas of forestry and arboriculture.  The qualifications will provide a Licence to Practice, so learners fulfil all legal and trade/industry criteria. 

Lantra Awards is now able to offer two assessment types for the new forestry and arboriculture qualifications.  The type of assessment will depend upon the unit/qualification taken, but could take the form of either:

• Independent Assessment – taking place separate and independent to the training   
• Integrated Training and Assessment – ongoing throughout the period of training with the point of assessment being made clear to the learner.  Assessment may be on a separate occasion or undertaken during training.

Both types of assessment will be carried out by individuals who are considered competent in the subject and who meet Assessor requirements.   

This could have huge benefits for learners and their employers. Lantra’s Training Centres can now deliver both training and assessment, making them more streamlined and saving time and money.  Lantra’s offer means that qualification delivery is more efficient and streamlined saving time and money.   

Integrated Training and Assessment (ITA) provisions are also being revised and updated to align to the new NOS.  For occasional users the ITA will continue to be the ideal solution.
