What is a Diploma?
The Diploma is a new qualification that combines theoretical study with practical experience and is part of the 14-19 reform programme.
Diplomas are multi-component qualifications themed around an industry sector (known as a ‘line of learning’) which have been designed as an alternative to traditional GCSEs and A Levels.
How is Lantra Awards involved?
Lantra Awards is approved as a Component Awarding Body (CAB) in the Phases 1, 2 and 3 lines of learning for the Diplomas.
Using our CAB status, Lantra Awards is offering a number of qualifications which can be used as Additional and Specialist Learning (ASL) within the new 14-19 Diploma qualifications.
Keep up to date with all Lantra Awards qualifications included for ASL through the National Database of Accredited Qualifications (NDAQ).
View the Diploma catalogue which provides information on all the qualifications that can contribute to each of the Diplomas.
If you are working with a school or college let them know the Lantra Awards qualifications approved for ASL.
If you are an approved qualification centre you can access The Diploma Validator. This website includes the Lantra Awards ASL provision linked to each line of learning for each of the four levels. Centres can use this tool to check that programmes of study selected for Diploma learners meet the requirements of the Diploma.
The benefits of qualifications which fall into ASL:
and compliments the learner’s principal learning
ASL gives learner’s the opportunity to broaden and/or deepen their studies by allowing them to choose qualifications they are interested in
Centres offering the Diploma can access funding for the various ASL qualifications
ASL qualifications are offered in various sizes, allowing learners to combine a number of qualifications, if required, to reflect their interests and ambitions.
While working towards the Diploma, learners achieve an array of individual qualifications that are important in their own right.
ASL qualifications allow progression opportunities for learners who want to progress into immediate employment with training, or into full time further and/or higher education.
