Assisting Shooting Loading – Level 2
Who the course is for
This is a Level 2 course and previous knowledge or experience is expected of candidates. The course is designed to consolidate and progress existing shotgun and field shooting competence as these apply to the loading and assisting role. Candidates may progress on to engagement as loaders and assistants in formal game shooting, either recreationally or linked to a work role requirement.

The minimum age to enroll on this course is 16.
Course content
- Introduction
- The role of the shooting assistant/loader
- Standards of behaviour and etiquette in the shooting field
- Quarry identification – status and context
- Shotgun knowledge (assistant/ loader)
- Firearms legislation (assistant/loader)
- Shotgun and equipment maintenance (assistant/loader)
- Loading routines safe handling and use: single gun
- Loading routines safe handling and use: double guns
- Risk assessment and planning for health and safety
- Shooting assistant/loader: applied health and safety – managing risk
