Dump truck training Courses

Lantra Awards offers training in basic knowledge and practical skills involved in operating a Dump Truck. Learn to operate the machine safely and correctly in accordance with manufacturers' instructions and accepted good practice. Even the most experienced operators can find themselves in potentially dangerous situations. Serious accidents can and do occur without proper training.

Who is this course for

Anyone who uses or will be using a dump truck with an articulated chassis (below or above 15 tonnes) or a rigid chassis wheeled (up to 15 tonnes; 15 to 50 tonnes; over 50 tonnes) or rigid chassis tracked in the land-based industries or construction industry.

The content of the course

  • Identify the basic construction and components, and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges.
  • Identify and comply with manufacturers instructions in accordance with the operator’s handbook, other information sources and applicable legislation.
  • Carry out all pre-use and running checks.
  • Set the dump truck for site and road travel.
  • Travel the over differing types of terrain, including rough undulating ground, in a loaded and unloaded state.
  • Travel up and down substantial inclines in a loaded and unloaded state.
  • Manoeuvre in confined areas using forward and reverse direction, in a loaded and unloaded state.
  • Position the dump truck to receive loads
  • Comply with loading procedures.
  • Ensure load integrity and security.
  • Discharge loads into trenches and over edges.
  • Place the dump truck in an out-of-service condition.
  • Explain the loading and unloading procedures on and off a transporter.

Completing this course

Holding a recognised certificate of training demonstrates that you have been adequately trained ‘for purposes of health and safety including training in the methods which may be adopted when using the machine, any risks which such use may entail and precautions to be taken’ (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998)) Approved Code of Practice and Guidance.
