Firearms Use and Preliminary Safety (Rifle) – Level 1

The aim of the assessment is to complete the training and ensure successful candidates have the understanding and ability to operate and use equipment as appropriate within a competent operating environment, in a manner that promotes and maintains the highest standards of safety. It should be impressed on candidates that only experience and practice will enable them to manage a firearm and operate safely in a range of recreational and working situations and avoid undue risks.

Age requirements

The minimum age to enroll on this course is 16.

Content

At the end of the course, each candidate will have been given the information enabling them to:

  • Introduction
  • The sporting rifle
  • The rifle cartridge
  • Legislation and the use of firearms – rifles
  • Cleaning and maintenance
  • Basic health and safety and rifle use
  • Rifle – safe handling and use (practical)
  • The storage and transportation of rifles
  • The benefits of shooting sports

Course Duration

1 day: split equally between the classroom and the firing range.
