Dealing with Windblown Trees
Lantra Awards offers training for operators of chainsaws that will involve the severing and processing of windblown trees of a diameter up to 1% effective guide bar length. Also covers using a winch to control tension and root plates,
and the felling of partially blown leaning trees.
Am I eligible?
The course is physical in nature and requires the carrying and movement of items in a forest and/or woodland environment, partly or wholly consisting of windblown trees.
Course duration
One-day training-only course for a maximum of four people who have attended Maintenance, Crosscutting and Felling Small and Medium-Sized Trees
Course content
- Site safety and PPE
- The regulations and safety requirements
- Assessing lying, windblown and broken timber and deciding on appropriate action
- Cutting windblown trees using appropriate techniques
- Operating a winch to control movement of root plates
