Slash training at your peril

Last Thursday saw an unprecedented move taken by a coalition of the UK's most senior businessmen and union leaders, calling for UK employers not to 'slash' staff training in a bid to cut costs in the current economic climate.

Newspapers reported that businessmen such as Sir Mike Rake, Chairman of the BT Group and the UK Commission for Employment and Skills, Sir Stuart Rose, Chairman of Marks & Spencer and Business in the Community and Richard Lambert, Director General of the CBI urged an increase in investment in staff skills and development, saying:

"Now is precisely the time to keep investing in the skills and talents of our people. It is the people we employ who will get us through."

The responsibility of learning and development professionals has therefore never been greater to prove their worth and ensure their strategy is aligned with the business.

The World of Learning Conference & Exhibition, taking place on 19 & 20 November 2008 at the NEC Birmingham, comes at just the right time to provide you with the opportunity to find out how to streamline your learning activities and offer more valuable and meaningful solutions to the business.
