Lantra Awards not a Registered CRB/ISA Body
Lantra Awards does not meet the requirements for becoming a Registered Body for CRB/ISA as the main purpose of our business doesn’t satisfy the criteria.
We recommend that it is the responsibility of the person employing any individual to work primarily with children or vulnerable adults to instigate the CRB if they feel it is relevant to the age group that they will be working with. If cost is a concern then employers can accept an existing CRB. This is called “portability” and is covered extensively on the CRB Website.
Employers taking responsibility
Ultimately Employers must take responsibility – by educating themselves with regard to the criteria for requesting a CRB as to whether the work they are asking instructors to undertake is likely to lead them to be unsupervised with children under the age of 16 or vulnerable adults.
The CRB do not penalised organisations if they do not avail themselves of the opportunity afforded by the Exceptions Order to ask staff to apply for a Disclosure. However, as mentioned above there are consequences if employers do not ask staff to apply for a Disclosure when other legislation requires them to do so.
It is not enough to meet the CRB eligibility criteria, to state that an individual may come into contact with children or vulnerable adults. Eligibility to apply for a Disclosure depends on the specific role a person will perform whilst conducting their duties within an organisation. A risk assessment should be undertaken to assess the role and duties they are expected to fulfil whilst carrying out their role and Disclosure application should be made accordingly.
Therefore, in light of the above, by using a full range of pre-recruitment checks, the employer must assess whether a Disclosure is required for a specific role, bearing in mind their legal and other responsibilities.
