Falconry Assessor Training Day a success
Lantra Awards recently hosted the Beginning Falconry Award Assessor Training day, which was aimed at new assessors for the Beginning Falconry Award. This is the only formal award for bird of prey keepers and falconers.
Many birds of prey can be easily purchased at relatively low cost and the number of people keeping birds of prey is on the rise. To ensure a basic standard amongst keepers, this award was developed between Lantra Awards and the Hawk Board to cover bird of prey husbandry and basic falconry techniques. The Award is granted to those who are able to demonstrate an understanding of background knowledge and practical skills in keeping a bird of prey in a safe and healthy condition.
Lead External Verifier for the Award, Grant Fergusson ran the event at Lantra House where new assessors travelled from all over the UK learned more about the expected standard required and how to assess existing, new and would be falconers for the Award.
