Details: Course for farmers and landowners. Reviews the benefits of headlands and margins and explains how to establish and manage them to prevent colonisation by weeds and to maximise their value to wildlife.
Drystone Walling
Duration: Two-day
Details: course enabling participants to undertake basic dry stone construction to suit the local style. Includes the selection and sorting of stone, the care of walling tools and the correct safety procedures.
Hedgelaying
Duration: Two-day
Details: course enabling participants to undertake basic hedgelaying to suit local style. Includes hedge maintenance, the care of hedgelaying tools and the
correct safety procedures.
Hedgerow Planting and Management
Duration: One-day
Details: course for farmers, landowners and smallholders wishing to plant new hedgerows or manage and restore existing ones. Covers topics such as species mixes for different hedge types, regions and soil conditions, and management during the early establishment phase. Also highlights how sensitive management can encourage a range of wildlife.
Strained Wire Fencing.
Duration: One-day
Details: courses in either high or mild steel fencing, both plain wire (including barbed wire) and netting. Enables participants to plan and organise a job efficiently, estimate materials needed, construct an adequate strainer post assembly, erect struts and contour posts, and affix different wire types to appropriate tensions.
