The Employment Medical Advisory Service is keen to ensure that employers and training providers are aware of the medical standards forklift truck operators.

The following is an extract from the ~ Selection of people for training.

"Employers should select potential lift-truck operators carefully. Those selected for training need to have the ability to do the job in a responsible manner and the potential to become competent operators. Those selected should have the necessary level of physical and mental fitness and learning ability for the task.

For further guidance on the selection of people for training, refer to paragraphs 28, 29 30 and 31 of the HSE Rider-operator lift trucks: Operator training Approved Code of Practice (L117)."
