Course Objectives :
At the end of this course trainees will be able to :
- Understand the legal requirements for towing a trailer on/off road
- Appreciate the main causes of accidents and how to avoid them
- Understand the main principles of safe towing
- Identify the maximum towing weights of specific vehicle/trailer combinations
- Measure nose weight, and correctly set up a vehicle/trailer combination
- Couple and un-couple the trailer correctly and safely
- Carry out full pre-driving checks
- Drive the unit through a series of turns and reverse into a restricted area
- Understand the standards required for safe trailer towing on the public road
- Understand the DSA cat. E test (trailer towing)
- Following Day 3, understand the risks associated with towing off-road
