Level 1 Certificate in Dry Stone Walling

These Dry Stone Walling Qualification has been specifically designed in partnership with the Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britain and is supported by Lantra Sector Skills Council.

How do I achieve the Qualification?

The Qualification is entirely externally assessed by practical assessment methods that assess the learners’ ability to build sections of the dry stone wall (and other features as appropriate to the level undertaken) within a given time period. The assessment methods reflect the practical nature of the qualifications which are based on the actual skills required by a practical dry stone waller.

Mandatory Units

Prepare to Build a Dry Stone Wall (Credit value = 6)
Build and Pack Dry Stone Walls (Credit value = 6)
Using Copestones (Credit value = 1)

Are there any age restrictions?

The minimum age restriction for Level 1 which is 14 years for Level 1

Can I progress through the levels?

Yes, each of the units within the Qualifications has been devised to enable the learner to move through the levels of skill development to achieve or work towards achieving a national qualification and improve their opportunities.

What are the benefits of completing this Qualification?

Learners who undertake this Qualifications will develop their knowledge of a range of dry stone walling skills and practices. Learners may then choose to specialise in a particular area of interest by undertaking further training and development or use their achieved units as a route to demonstrate ongoing development.
