ADVANCED CERTIFICATE IN PESTICIDE SPRAY APPLICATIONS
Summary Information
Who can do the qualification?
This qualification is aimed at professional pesticide sprayer operators, working in agricultural contexts, who are already competent to the basic level required by legislation and who wish to extend their knowledge and improve their practice.
What does the qualification comprise?
The qualification is made up of two units:
Unit 1 Demonstrate knowledge of pesticide applications
Candidates will develop knowledge of factors which need to be considered before applying pesticides including legislation, health and safety, environmental factors, products and equipment.
Unit 2 Demonstrate ability to apply pesticides safely and efficiently in
agriculture
Candidates will apply their knowledge of the application of pesticides to a minimum of three spray operations in order to develop the ability to apply pesticides safely and efficiently. They will develop the ability to compile and maintain comprehensive records of spray operations.
How is the qualification assessed?
For Unit 1, candidates take a test lasting one hour consisting of multiple choice and short answer questions. The tests are centrally set and marked by Lantra Awards and are available three times each year (dates for the test are set in advance).
Candidates must have been entered for the Unit 1 test before they are assessed for Unit 2.
For Unit 2, using a portfolio record sheet supplied by Lantra Awards, candidates must compile comprehensive records of at least two spray applications. The portfolio record sheets will be reviewed by the external assessor before the candidate does the practical assessment. External assessors, appointed by Lantra Awards, will visit the candidate on site and observe him/her carrying out a practical spray application.
Who can offer the qualification?
Colleges and training providers can register as an assessment centre with Lantra Awards.
Do I have to do a training course?
Not if you feel that you already have the skills required. Contact Lantra Awards who will inform you of your nearest approved centre where you can apply to be tested and/or receive training for this qualification.
